When practicing Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) in my personal and professional life, I don’t rely entirely on information learned during my participation in counseling (2011) or social work (2014) graduate study programs. That material is a decade or more old at this point.
Likewise, I don’t depend solely on my official REBT training (2021) as the foundation of my knowledge. I read books, watch videos, listen to audio recordings, write blog entries, and use other mediums to enrich the process of learning.
Regarding this matter, the final entry of The REBT Therapist’s Pocket Companion (“Pocket Companion”), page 240, states, “You will never stop learning as an REBT therapist. If you think you have no more to learn, it is probably time to retire.”
I continue learning while also promoting REBT through psychoeducational activities so that other people can also learn about this useful psychotherapeutic modality. In fact, my blog category related to the Pocket Companion was designed for this specific purpose.
Specifically, I chose to use the perspective of a psychotherapist rather than addressing information covered in The REBT Pocket Companion for Clients. This is because I wanted readers to peer behind the proverbial curtain of psychotherapy so that they could better understand the method.
Through use of personal anecdotes, links to REBT online information, and highlighted concepts of the modality, I aim to leave the reader with a starting point so that you may continue learning. Keep in mind that I’ve conducted myself imperfectly throughout this exploration.
As the current entry is the last in the Pocket Companion category, you now have imperfect knowledge to begin your own journey. May you continue learning, improving your life, and finding a way to get better rather than to merely feel better.
If you’re looking for a provider who works to help you understand how thinking impacts physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral elements of your life—helping you to sharpen your critical thinking skills, I invite you to reach out today by using the contact widget on my website.
As a psychotherapist, I’m pleased to help people with an assortment of issues ranging from anger (hostility, rage, and aggression) to relational issues, adjustment matters, trauma experience, justice involvement, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and depression, and other mood or personality-related matters.
At Hollings Therapy, LLC, serving all of Texas, I aim to treat clients with dignity and respect while offering a multi-lensed approach to the practice of psychotherapy and life coaching. My mission includes: Prioritizing the cognitive and emotive needs of clients, an overall reduction in client suffering, and supporting sustainable growth for the clients I serve. Rather than simply helping you to feel better, I want to help you get better!
