Why You Lyin'?

According to one source that explains the origin of memes, “Why The F**k You Lyin’ is a viral video in which Viner Nicholas Fraser performs a short homemade song about liars in his backyard to the tune of the 1997 R&B song ‘Too Close’ by Next.” Lyrics include:
Why the fuck you lying? (Why)
Why you always lying? (Why)
Hmmm, oh my God
Stop fucking lying
Always lying to me (why?)
You lying so much (why?)
You making it hard for me (yeah)
The once viral meme was often used on social media as a sole response to someone believed to have been lying (marked by or containing untrue statements). For example, person X claims to have served in the military, person Y doubts the claim, and the latter posts the meme in response.
The meme was quite popular on hip hop forums, as various rappers and lyricists also criticized people’s behavior when lies were perceived. At some point, people simply began using the word “cap” synonymously with a lie (to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive).
For instance, on his 2019 album N9na, lyricist Tech N9ne released the track “You Line!” which featured rapper Krizz Kaliko. The intro states, “Rap, rap, cap, cap, cap, yap, yap, yap! Serious, we ain’t hearing it.” Expressing similar sentiment as Fraser’s meme, the chorus twice states:
Already know you lyin’
When you ain’t got it, gon’ show you lyin’
Heard cap ‘bout a lot of dough, few times
That ain’t so, you lyin’, and it flow through ridin’, let it go
I appreciate that both Fraser’s meme and Tech N9ne’s song make a mockery of obvious lies. This is because I maintain that bad ideas deserve to be mocked, which includes statements, narratives, propositions, or otherwise which are illogical or unreasonable, and apparent cap.
As an example, when running for president, candidate Joe Biden boldly stated, “I promise you, uh, that if I’m elected president you’re gonna see the single most important thing that changes America, is we’re gonna cure cancer.” Although some may’ve been hopeful, that was cap!
How could I make such a claim? For one, there was no “cure” for cancer during the Biden administration. Yet Biden and whomever it was that was actually running the country during his presidency apparently found time to infringe the rights of United States (U.S.) citizens.
Second, per one source, “For all cancers combined, the incidence in 2021 was 439 per 100,000 standard population. Although this rate is higher than in 2020 (first year of the COVID-19 pandemic), it is lower than it was in 2017 to 2019 (pre-pandemic).” Cancer rates increased.
Lastly, according to one source, “Joe Biden’s announcement that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer has revived questions about what health issues the former US president was dealing with while he was in the White House.” The Biden administration didn’t cure cancer.
While I don’t celebrate Biden’s reported cancer diagnosis, I mock the notion that he or anyone who ostensibly used him as a puppet during his presidency were even remotely interested in the health of U.S. citizens. Evidence for my claim relates to the bungled COVID-19 response.
The Biden administration arguably influenced global actions to what was little more than a harsh cold. Furthermore, to witness media members now cappin’ about how they supposedly had no idea about Biden’s deteriorated health when he was in office is worthy of the Fraser meme.
I’ve never been a member of the White House press corps, though on June 28, 2024, using little more than my powers of observation, I stated in a blogpost entitled The Puppeteer and the Puppet, evoking characters from The Lord of the Rings regarding a presidential debate:
One remains uncertain as to who puppeteers Théoden [Biden], though suspicions remain about Wormtongue [people who were actually running the country] and who’s been fulfilling the role of the U.S. President since January 2021. It’s difficult to suspend critical and rational belief long enough to pretend as though it’s the man who stumbled and bumbled on a debate stage yesterday.
I recall discussing my concerns with a (then) friend who voted for Biden and she outright declared that, in her mind, it was better to have had an unelected council behind the scene that ran the country – as long as Donald Trump wasn’t in office. That’s unconstitutional rhetoric.
In a July 2, 2024 blogpost entitled Our Democracy, I again used The Lord of the Rings motif and stated, “While I’ve evidenced some suspicions herein, there simply isn’t enough actual evidence to outright declare that Biden is absolutely being controlled or influenced by nefarious actors.”
Now, people are coming forward left and right with evidence that suggests Biden plausibly wasn’t running the U.S. I appreciate critical thinking which challenged actions of the Biden administration while he was in office. Some of us spoke up when speaking had consequences.
Yet, I have no respect for those who begged for “amnesty” concerning the roles of people who ostensibly abused power during the COVID-19 era, just as those who are now cappin’ about how they supposedly knew little-to-nothing about Biden’s deteriorated health during his term.
Why the fuck you lying? (Why)
Why you always lying? (Why)
