Question:
What makes Hollings Therapy, LLC different in Austin?
Answer:
Deric Hollings, owner and operator of Hollings Therapy, LLC, began to informally practice life coaching in 1991. This occurred when he was a resident in a children’s home, as he worked tirelessly to assist fellow residents and even adult staff members with an assortment of problems.
After graduating and enlisting in the United States (U.S). Marine Corps, serving billets as military police and as a Marine Security Guard, Deric honed his life coach skills. This learning and training process continued through his post-military work in the field of nuclear security.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education degree, with a focus on Justice Administration in 2009, Deric then went on to earn a Master of Arts in Counseling degree in 2011. That is when he began focusing on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT).
For that degree, Deric obtained practicum hours with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) while working with the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) program. He also interned at the Lubbock County Detention Center, practicing REBT with criminal offenders.
After graduating, Deric enjoyed working with clients for a justice diversion program in conjunction with the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) program at the Potter County Detention Center as a psychotherapist.
Then, in 2014, Deric earned a Master of Science in Social Work degree. In conjunction with that experience, he was assigned to Communities in Schools while focusing on justice-involved students—much in the manner that Deric worked with his peers within a children’s home.
After graduating, Deric worked for the VA. At that time, his focus was on the VA Caregiver Support Program—providing psychoeducational lessons to caregivers who provided in-home support for service-connected injured or ill military veterans.
In 2021, Deric attained Texas licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In the same year, he formed Hollings Therapy, LLC. In all, Deric has over three decades of education, training, and experience assisting people with their issues.
Also, in addition to formal training in administration of REBT, Deric has been formally trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and as a Certified Personality Disorder Treatment Provider. Yet, he solely uses REBT.
It is unknown as to whether or not other professional providers of care for mental, emotional, and behavioral health (collectively “mental health”) in Austin, Texas retain similar education, training, and experience as Deric. Perhaps they do. Perhaps they do not.
Nevertheless, Deric does not compare himself to other mental health care providers in Texas or elsewhere. Aside from his personal and professional background, what makes Hollings Therapy, LLC different in Austin is that Deric’s experience is unique only to him.
The same is likely the case for you. Rather than needlessly comparing yourself with others who do not share your lived experience, why not let go—without attachment—of unhelpful comparison? Perhaps Deric will be a good fit for your unique circumstances; perhaps not.
