All I Can Do

In a blogpost entitled To Try Is My Goal, I outlined my modified approach to Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). Rather than formerly seeking to help people feel better regarding their mental, emotional, and behavior health wants and needs, I now try to help people get better.

The key to my adapted methodology is that by trying to help individuals improve their level of functioning and quality of life I achieve success by merely attempting this endeavor. This is a significantly different objective than demanding that I absolutistically must help people.

All I can do is strive to aid in the understanding of, belief in, and routine practice of REBT. However, if the people with whom I work outright neglect the personal responsibility and accountability necessary for success with REBT, then they haven’t done all they could do.

When contemplating this matter further I’m reminded of a relatively new track by Nim K. entitled “All I Can Do” from her debut album Queen of the Misfits (2025). Lyrics include:

Realize early mornings and late nights

I see the hate, can’t hide the pain in my eyes

Hold my tongue, eat your words, swallowin’ my pride

Mortified, traumatized, but that’s life

Goin’ hard, goin’ hard for me’s and mine’s

Always go my hardest till all my stars align

It’s all about grind, ‘bout the face, go for ya mind

All I can do is try, try again, and press rewind

When providing psychoeducational lessons on REBT I’m cognizant of the limits regarding my level of control and influence. All I can do is try, try again, and press rewind if someone misunderstands the manner in which I’ve taught the ABC model and unconditional acceptance.

As for belief in and routine practice of REBT, that’s entirely up to the individual. I’m goin’ hard for me’s and mine’s, though it isn’t as though others must value REBT as much as I. Therefore, all I can do is try. Beyond that, people recommendatorily should try, as well. You ready to try?
