What are common issues treated by REBT in Texas?
Answer:
According to the American Psychological Association, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is thusly defined:
[A] form of cognitive behavior therapy based on the concept that an individual’s self-defeating beliefs influence and cause negative feelings and undesirable behaviors. Specifically, a person’s problems are seen as the result of turning healthy desires for success, approval, and pleasure into demands (e.g., “I must achieve outstandingly well in one or more important respects or I am an inadequate person”).
Because of its emphasis on thinking, feeling, and acting as integrated and holistic processes, REBT uses a variety of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral techniques to directly and emphatically interrupt clients’ irrational beliefs and encourage them to think and act in more effective, self-enhancing (i.e., rational) ways.
Formally trained staff at Hollings Therapy, LLC provides psychoeducational lessons on REBT by teaching the ABC model and unconditional acceptance (UA). These REBT techniques are used for reducing distress and disturbance which are caused by one’s own unproductive beliefs.
For example, someone cuts you off in traffic (Action), you Believe that the person shouldn’t have done so, and this inflexible attitude causes anger (Consequence). You can then Dispute this unhelpful script and establish an Effective new belief. In essence, that is the ABC model.
Similarly, you could use UA by considering how little control and influence you have regarding most matters in life. You may then refocus your beliefs in a direction that is better aligned with your interests and goals. With UA, you can use Stoicism to inform how you react to situations.
Ultimately, REBT is used for a wide range of common or uncommon issues. Favorably, REBT is a transdiagnostic approach to problem solving. This means that a formal diagnosis is not necessary in order to benefit from this self-help method of rational living.
Though no diagnosis is necessary to practice this psychotherapeutic modality, common matters treated by REBT often relate to anxiety, depression, trauma, and many more issues. Also, the staff at Hollings Therapy, LLC addresses these matters for people across the state of Texas.
